If you walk in Times Square - New York - you will probably find cowgirls or cowboys playing guitar naked and posing for pictures with tourists.
Behind this show there is a real business fight between a veteran cowgirl stripper - Sandy Kane - and cowboy Robert Burke who owns the naked cowboy trademark. In 2013 Sandy Kane sent Burke a cease-and-desist letter to try stopping him from using cowgirl “imposters” in his act.
Burke charges $5,000 per year or $500 per month for others to join his lucrative busking franchise. Astonishingly, he is said to be worth over $2 million, but has not filed a trademark for the cowgirl character.
