Coney Island
Each summer, during the Mermaid Parade, Coney Island briefly loosens its grip on reality. Between 2012 and 2018, I returned to this moment again and again. Bodies overlap, costumes overwhelm, the street refuses a clear center. Meaning appears by accident in layers, obstructions, and glances caught at the edge. Coney Island has long existed as a place of projection and excess. Here, it is fractured, intimate, and unresolved.
